What's new?!?
Science
For science we are learning about sounds and vibrations. We'll explore how different instruments make different pitches and frequencies. We'll also learn about the human ear and how we hear sound.
Social Studies
We are learning all about economics and the exchange of goods and services. Students will make their own businesses where they determine what they will sell, the costs, and their expenses for materials. To practice this concept we like to play the lemonade stand game as well!
Math
While we will be moving into graphs, measurement, and fractions for math, we will still frequently revisit double digit and triple digit addition and subtraction. Please follow the links to see videos of how we add and subtract using base ten blocks and number lines. While these strategies may seem excessive compared to the standard algorithm of carrying or borrowing, it helps create a visual that will help with mental math in the future. Learning these patterns with numbers develops a deeper understanding- consider subtracting a three digit number in your head- you're bound to forget what you borrowed somewhere in there! What's great is to see how your child can solve these problems faster and faster, and will fit them together in ways you wouldn't think of. It's amazing to watch how they grow in this way!

Literacy
For reading and writing we are always EXTREAMLY busy! The spelling pattern can be found with their spelling list in the agenda. Every week is a different story and a different comprehension skill! These kiddos are up for the challenge :)
